And observe, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was 60 stadia from Jerusalem. And they conversed together of all the things, which had happened. |
And it came about, while they deliberated and reasoned together, that Yeshuah himself drew near, and left with them. |
But their eyes were deceived that they should not recognise him. |
And he said to them, "What are these words that you have one with another, as you walk?" And they were sad looking. |
And one of them, named Cleopas answered him: "Do you alone sojourn in Jerusalem and do not know the things which have come about there in these days? |
And he said to them: "What things?" And they say to him: "The things concerning Yeshuah the Nazarene, who was a Prophet mighty in teaching and actions before God and all the people: |
and how the chief - priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. |
But we trusted that it was he who should free Israel. And besides all this, it is now the 3rd day since these things came to be. |
Moreover, certain women of ours absolutely atonished us, having been early at the tomb, |
and when they did not find his body, they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. And certain of them that were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said, but they did not see him." |
And he said to them: "You unteachable men, and stupid of heart not to believe in everything that the Prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?" |
And beginning from Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them all the Scriptures the things concerning himself! |
And they drew near to a village, where they were going, and he made as though he would have gone further. |
And they compelled him, saying: "Abide with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent," and he went in to wait with them. |
And it came about, when he had reclined with them to eat (Symposium), he took the Bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them. Suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognised him, and he then vanished out of their sight! |
And they said to one another: "Was not our heart and mind burning within us, while he spoke to us on the Way, while he opened our minds to the Scriptures?" |
And they rose up that very hour, and returned back to Jerusalem, and found the 11 gathered together, and those that were with them, saying: "The Lord Teacher is Risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon." |
And they interpreted the things that happened on the Way, and how they recognised him in the breaking of the Bread. And as they spoke these things, he, Yeshuah, stood in the middle of them, saying: "Peace be to you!" |
But they were terrified and trembled with dread, and supposed that they saw a ghost. And he said to them: "Why are you troubled? And why do questionings of doubt arise in your hearts and minds?" |
"See, my hands and my feet, it is I myself - handle me and see, for a ghost has no flesh and bones as you see me having." And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. |
And while they still disbelieved, being joyful, and wondering in amazement, he said to them: "Have you here any meat?" |
And they gave him a portion of a fish and fresh honeycomb, and he took it and ate in front of them. |
And he said to them: "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was yet with you - that everything must be fulfilled that is written in the Law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms concerning me. Then he opened up their minds that they might understand the Scriptures! |
While water represents Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms, the bread and Wine relates to the decoding of them, therefore, unveiling the Scriptures through having one's mind opened to receive the New Teaching - and through the New Teaching the fulfillment of the New Covenant promised to those whom God Loves! |
